Disc brake technology offers improved braking per-formance for amateur and professional road cyclists alike. While most wheel manufacturers simply repur-pose their rim brake optimized wheel models into disc brake wheels by covering brake tracks with decals and adding spokes, this leaves substantial amounts of performance on the table. As a wheel manufacturer, carbon fiber rim braking surfaces are a major design constraint that limits weight savings and aero shape optimization. By removing the constraints of a braking surface on the rim, we are allowed to completely rethink the shape of the rim and more specifically the brake track area itself. The SES 7.8 Disc features the patented SES rim curvature but it can now be further optimized for aerodynamics now that a braking surface has been eliminated and isn’t required to be flat. Additionally, the SES 7.8 Disc carbon fiber clinchers are much lighter because the material used for heat management has been eliminated. This allows us to fo-cus our efforts into making the rim more aerodynamically efficient and impact resistant. Finally, the SES 7.8 carbon clincher is road tubeless compatible or it can be run with standard inner-tubes and tires. Like the current generation SES carbon clinchers and tubulars, the SES 7.8 Disc has been aerodynamically optimized around the fast rolling 25mm tires on the market like the Continental GP and Schwalbe One series tires.
